The Museum District, Richmond, VA

This neighborhood is home to newborn photo locations in Richmond VA that photograph beautifully year-round.

Indoor Locations

The Branch Museum

The Branch Museum is one of my favorite indoor locations for newborn sessions, tucked in the Museum District in Richmond, VA. This location has beautiful cross-hatched windows that bring in plenty of beautiful natural light along with stone walls that make photos feel editorial. There’s also an option to go outside for some photos to add more variety.

There is street parking for the Branch Museum. Being that there is minimal foot traffic, this location is wonderful for newborn sessions.

Outdoor Locations

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is a beautiful outdoor newborn session location, perfect in the spring and fall given its changing foliage and white stone backdrop. Given its white stone building backdrop and spots with green foliage year round, it’s also perfect for those occasional warm winter days.

There is street parking for the VMFA. While there is often heavy foot traffic on the grounds, it’s typically lighter in the mornings.

Byrd Park, Richmond, VA

Byrd Park offers some of the most beautiful newborn photo locations in Richmond, VA.

Outdoor Locations

Maymont Park

Maymont Park is a very popular location for outdoor newborn sessions. It has stunning Italian and Japanese gardens, green spaces, and gazebos, making it the perfect location for an elegant or relaxed newborn session. It’s perfect year-round, especially in the late spring and fall, and even on warm winter days.

There is a parking lot as well as additional street parking at Maymont Park. There is often heavy foot traffic at Maymont, and it’s typically lighter in the mornings or on weekday evenings.

The Carillon

The Carillon is nestled in Byrd Park and is a great year-round location for newborn photos given its timeless stone architecture. The Carillon features a beautiful staircase, an upper patio, and it is surrounded by trees. There’s a parking lot near the Carillon as well as street parking, and there’s typically minimal foot traffic.

Windsor Farms, Richmond, VA

Windsor Farms is home to several of my favorite newborn photo locations in Richmond, VA, each with its own timeless, elegant feel.

Outdoor Locations

Virginia House

Virginia House is the perfect location for outdoor newborn photos if you’re looking for a timeless setting that alludes to European elegance. With beautifully manicured gardens and an old-world English manor house, this location is one that families come back to time and time again. Virginia House has plenty of shade and minimal foot traffic, making it a location that photographs beautifully throughout the day. Agecroft Hall

Another breathtaking manor house setting, Agecroft Hall & Gardens is most well known for their tulip garden, which is in full bloom for a period of time in the spring. Outside of this season, there are a variety of beautiful blooms through early fall. With its beautiful manor house backdrop, it photographs beautifully throughout the year. There is a parking lot and minimal foot traffic. The address for Agecroft is: 4305 Sulgrave Road, Richmond, VA 23221.

Cherry Blossoms

For a short period of time in the spring (usually late March to early April), the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. While there are plenty of beautiful locations for these blossom-filled, seasonal photos, my favorite location is in Windsor Farms. It’s one of the most popular newborn photo locations in Richmond, VA each spring. There’s often heavy foot traffic, but the best time to go is on a weekday morning. There is also plenty of street parking.

Lakeside, Richmond, VA

Lakeside is another neighborhood with one of the top newborn photo locations in Richmond, VA.

Outdoor Locations

Lewis Ginter

Filled with flowers in beautiful bloom from late spring through early fall, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is a stunning location for newborn photos just outside of Richmond, VA in Lakeside. Lewis Ginter also features a pond and garden gazebo, which is perfect for adding more variety in backdrops to your session. There is also a parking lot available onsite. Weekday mornings are typically the best time to visit for a photo session due to lighter foot traffic. The address for Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is: 1800 Lakeside Avenue, Henrico, VA 23228.

In-home newborn sessions are by far the most popular, and with good reason. Home is the very first place you bring your baby to, it’s where you’ve spent time preparing for your baby’s arrival, and it’s where you feel most comfortable. It’s truly one of the most meaningful newborn photo locations in Richmond, VA for so many families.

For in-home newborn photos, you don’t have to worry about having the most decorated home up-to-date on all the latest interior design trends. The most important thing we need for an in-home newborn session is a space with plenty of natural light pouring in through the windows. We can also use the space around your home, like the front porch or backyard. As part of the planning process, I’ll help you find those spaces with the best light for your session.
