Serving Richmond and Charlottesville

Your family can change so much in just one year. Think back to this time last year - how have things changed? Maybe your children have grown a few inches, have toothless smiles, or maybe they're just starting to play with a new sibling. Now think, 20 years from now, how do you plan to look back at this time?

There are so many sweet memories that can be captured in family photos to freeze time on the days when your children were little. As a Richmond family photographer, my goal is to help you do just that.

As a Richmond family photographer and mom, I know how busy life can be, which is why I've designed my family sessions to take care of all the details - from start to finish. With these sessions, you'll receive support throughout the entire process. We'll work together to plan your family's outfits and choose the perfect location, whether that's an outdoor location in the Richmond, Virginia area or in your home.

You don't have to pick out poses in advance of your session - I'll take care of guiding you with natural poses and prompts using games to make the session fun for your littles. And you don't have to worry about adding the task of printing photos to your to-do list - I'll take care of that, too.

By the end of our time together, you'll have beautiful family portraits printed and ready to decorate your home, or preserved in photo albums on your coffee table for you to view whenever you want to relive these moments. They say the days are long but the years are short. I'm here to help you hold on to these moments just a little bit longer.

Kind Words

I can’t recommend Katie enough! The photos turned out absolutely stunning. She has such a great eye for detail and captured everything perfectly. What really stood out, though, was how fun and easy she made the whole photo shoot. She made me feel totally comfortable and kept the energy light and relaxed the entire time. You can tell she loves what she does, and it really shows in both the experience and the final product. If you’re thinking about booking a shoot, do it! You won’t be disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should I reach out to schedule for my photo session?

I take on a limited number of portrait sessions each month so that I can invest more time into my clients. For a greater choice in availability, I recommend reaching out 1-2 months in advance. Fall can be a busier season, so I recommend reaching out even earlier for a session during that time of year.

2. What time of day do you schedule richmond family photos?

Richmond family photography sessions are scheduled around the time of day when we'll have the best light. For outdoor locations, this tends to be right after sunrise or 1-2 hours before sunset to get that golden hour glow.

3. Will you help us choose a location for our photos?

Yes! I have a few favorite locations in the Richmond, VA area that offer a beautiful backdrop for family photos. We can choose from those spots or others depending on the vision you have for your photos.

4. What happens if it rains on the day of our photo session?

I want you to have beautiful photos and feel your best during your session. If it rains, we can reschedule our session for another upcoming date.

5. Will you do a Richmond family photography session in our home?

Yes! In-home Richmond family photography sessions are so sweet since that's where most of your memories are made together. All we need is a space with a window that brings in plenty of natural light, and if it's by a white or light grey wall, that can help reflect clean light. During these sessions, it can also be fun to include some of your favorite family activities, like baking, making crafts, playing a game, or something else you enjoy as a family!

6. Can we include our dog in our family photos?

Of course! Dogs are definitely family. :) We would just need to make sure the session location is dog-friendly. It can also be helpful to bring along a friend or family member who won't be in the photos for times when your dog needs a break from the session.

7. Will you help us with planning outfits for our photos?

Absolutely! I'll provide a style guide to walk you through coordinating your outfits, and I can also provide personalized guidance over email or video call. Coordinating outfits is an important piece to creating timeless portraits that highlight your family's connection with each other, and I love to help families with this.

8. Is film included in family sessions?

Most often, yes! Film photography adds a soft, nostalgic feel to photos, which is beautiful for the slow moments in family sessions. With using film, we just need plenty of natural light, whether that's from a large window in your home or from the sun outdoors. As a hybrid digital and film photographer, I also edit my digital photos to emulate film. This combination works great in settings where there isn't enough light, or when we need the speed of a faster camera to keep up with young children. In some cases, film may not be the best medium, and I'll only use digital photography.
