What moments do you think you'll miss most about your newborn? Will it be their sweet yawn, their tiny fingers and toes, or maybe that newborn scrunch? As a mom, I know how important it is to document every moment of your child's life. And that begins with them as a newborn, documenting each and every detail so you can hold onto that season for just a little bit longer. Life can be busy in those first two weeks of your baby's life, but carving out time for newborn portraits is so worth it. I'll often hear of moms saying they regret not having newborn photos done with their child, but I've never heard of a mom saying they've regretted having them done.
As a Richmond newborn photographer and mom, I've designed my newborn session experiences to take care of all the details, so that you can relax and soak up this season with your baby. With these sessions, you'll receive support from start to finish. We'll work together to plan your family's outfits and choose the perfect location, whether that's an outdoor location in the Richmond, Virginia area or in your home. You don't have to pick out poses in advance of your session - I'll take care of guiding you with natural poses and prompts. And you don't have to worry about adding the task of printing photos to your to-do list - I'll take care of that, too. By the end of our time together, you'll have beautiful newborn portraits printed and ready to decorate your home, or preserved in photo albums on your coffee table for you to view whenever you want to relive these moments.
During my Richmond newborn photographer sessions, we'll get photos of just your baby on their own, naturally and gently posed in a woven basket or on a bed. We'll also get photos of you and your family bonding with your new addition. I have plenty of timeless props we can use in our session, from woven baskets, to white baby blankets and bow-wrapped swaddles, so you don't have to source any special props for the session. My newborn sessions can also be combined with a maternity photography session and/or milestone session (such as a 6-month sitter session or one year birthday session), so that you can document your baby throughout their first year of life. They say the days are long but the years are short. I'm here to help you preserve this first year - and beyond - every step of the way.
I recommend reaching out as early as you can, at least 2 months in advance of your due date. I take on a limited number of newborn sessions each month, so there is more availability the earlier you reach out.
I typically meet with families within the first 1-2 weeks of baby's arrival. Babies grow so quickly, so scheduling these photos earlier means we can capture the details of those early days when they were still small and sleepy.
As a lifestyle Richmond newborn photographer, I document this time in a way that focuses on your family's connection with your baby and your baby's details using soft, gentle prompts and poses.
I have plenty of beautiful, timeless props that we can include in our Richmond newborn photography session, including white or bow-wrapped swaddles, woven baskets, and white baby blankets. These help to highlight your baby's details and your family's connection with your baby.
Yes! I'll provide a style guide to walk you through coordinating your outfits, and I can also provide personalized guidance over email or video call. Coordinating outfits is an important piece to creating timeless portraits that highlight your family's connection with your new baby, and I love to help families with this.
During the newborn phase, your job is to take care of your baby and yourself. No need to worry about any mess in your home or clean up before I arrive. All we need is a space with a window that brings in plenty of natural light, and if it's by a white or light grey wall, that can help reflect clean light.
Absolutely! Some families choose to have their full session outdoors at a favorite location, and others choose to have part of their in-home session outdoors, such as on their front porch, in their backyard, or at a community garden.
Most often, yes! Film photography adds a soft, nostalgic feel to newborn photos. With using film, we just need plenty of natural light, whether that's from a large window in your home or from the sun outdoors. As a hybrid digital and film photographer, I also edit my digital photos to emulate film. This combination works great in settings where there isn't enough light, or when we need the speed of a faster camera to keep up with young children. In some cases, film may not be the best medium, and I'll only use digital photography.
